Physical and chemical properties
Butylated hydroxytoluene is a white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless. Its melting point is 69.7 ℃, its boiling point is 265 ℃, and it is pretty stable to heat. Contact with metal ions, especially iron ions, does not show color and has a good antioxidant effect. Volatilize with water vapor when heated. Soluble in glycerol, propylene glycol, and water, but insoluble in 25%.

Application
Antioxidant
As a food antioxidant, dibutyl hydroxytoluene can be used in basically water-free fats and oils, with a maximum of 0.2g/kg; The maximum dosage in gum-based candy is 0.4g/kg. Dibutylhydroxytoluene can be used in fat, oil and emulsified fat products, cooked nuts, and seeds (fried nuts and seeds only), canned nuts and seeds, fried flour products, dried vegetables (dehydrated potato powder only), ready to eat cereals, including rolled oats (slices), instant rice flour products, biscuits, pickled Bacon products (such as bacon, bacon, salted duck, Chinese ham and sausage), air drying The maximum dosage of dried and pressed aquatic products and puffed food is 0.2g/kg.
Like butyl hydroxyanisole, dibutyl hydroxytoluene can be used in edible oil, fried food, dried fish products, biscuits, instant noodles, quick boiled rice, canned nuts, cured meat products, and breakfast cereals. Dibutyl hydroxytoluene can be used as a fat-soluble antioxidant for other purposes.
