Physical and chemical properties
White, odorless, slightly phenol-smelling solid. Melting point 138℃, boiling point 160℃. It is easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, and benzene, and slightly soluble in water (0.54g/100ml, 20℃). The aqueous solution is acidic and decomposes under ultraviolet irradiation.

Application of preservatives
As a food preservative, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid can be used for surface-treated fresh fruits and vegetables, with a maximum dosage of 0.01g/kg (maximum residue ≤ 2.0mg/kg). It is mainly used for external soaking or coating preservation of fruits and vegetables. It should not be directly added to food processing products.
