What is Kanamycin Monosulfate Soluble Powder?

Aminoglycoside antibiotic. Kanamycin is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic exhibiting potent antibacterial activity against most Gram-negative bacilli such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella, and Pasteurella multocida. Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis are also generally susceptible. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), Rickettsia, anaerobic bacteria, and fungi are typically resistant to kanamycin. Kanamycin is poorly absorbed following oral administration and is primarily excreted unchanged in feces.

Side Effects

What are the potential side effects of Kanamycin Monosulfate Soluble Powder in different animal species?

(1) Exhibits nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, and neuromuscular blocking effects. Concomitant use with diuretics (e.g., furosemide, ethacrynic acid) or erythromycin may potentiate these toxicities.

(2) Divalent and monovalent cations such as Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Na⁺, NH⁺₄, and K⁺ can inhibit the antibacterial activity of aminoglycosides. Cation concentrations in the culture medium should be controlled during susceptibility testing.
