It is commonly combined with amprolium or diaveridine to enhance efficacy. Its peak activity targets the second-generation schizonts (days 3-4 of coccidial infection) and does not interfere with the development of immunity against coccidia in poultry. It possesses moderate antibacterial activity and can prevent secondary infections associated with coccidiosis. Cross-resistance with other sulfonamides may readily occur.
