What is Levamisole Hydrochloride Tablets?
Pharmacodynamics: This product belongs to the imidazothiazole class of anthelmintics and is active against most nematodes in cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, and chickens. Its anthelmintic mechanism involves stimulating both parasympathetic and sympathetic ganglia of the parasite, exhibiting a nicotinic-like action; at high concentrations, it interferes with nematode carbohydrate metabolism by blocking fumarate reduction and succinate oxidation, ultimately leading to paralysis and expulsion of the live parasites.
In addition to its anthelmintic activity, this product significantly enhances immune responses. It restores cell-mediated immune function in peripheral T lymphocytes, stimulates phagocytosis by monocytes, and exerts more pronounced effects in immunocompromised animals.
Pharmacokinetics: This product is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, distributes throughout the body upon absorption, and is largely metabolized in the liver and kidneys. Metabolites are primarily excreted in urine, with less than 6% excreted unchanged; a small amount is excreted in feces. Plasma half-lives are approximately: 4–6 hours in cattle, 3–4 hours in sheep, 3.5–6.8 hours in pigs, and 1.8–4 hours in dogs.
