Description
This product is a clear, colorless liquid.
Pharmacological Action
In the liver, under the catalysis of the enzyme rhodanese (thiosulfate sulfurtransferase), this product can combine with free cyanide (CN⁻) or with cyanide already bound to methemoglobin, converting it into non‑toxic thiocyanate, which is then excreted in the urine.
After intravenous injection, this product is rapidly distributed into the extracellular fluid of various tissues.
Action and Use
Antidote. Mainly used for the treatment of cyanide poisoning; also used for poisoning with arsenic, mercury, lead, bismuth, iodine, etc.
Dosage and Administration
Intravenous or intramuscular injection: single dose - horses, cattle 100–200 ml; sheep, pigs 20–60 ml; dogs, cats 20–40 ml.
Adverse Reactions
No adverse reactions have been observed when used according to the prescribed dosage and administration.
Precautions
(1) The antidotal effect of this product develops slowly. Sodium nitrite should be injected intravenously first, followed by slow injection of this product. However, the two solutions must not be mixed together for intravenous injection.
(2) For animals that have ingested the poison, a 5% solution of this product should also be used for gastric lavage, and an appropriate amount of the solution should be retained in the stomach after lavage.
