This product is a clear, oily liquid, pale yellow.
Pharmacological Action
This product is one of the main forms of vitamin D. It has important effects on calcium and phosphorus metabolism and on bone growth in young animals. Its primary function is to promote the normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the small intestine. Its metabolically active form regulates renal tubular reabsorption of calcium, maintains blood calcium levels, and promotes normal bone development. 7‑Dehydrocholesterol in the skin is converted to vitamin D₃ upon exposure to ultraviolet light. Vitamin D₃ in the blood binds to α‑globulins for transport to other sites and is metabolised in the liver and kidneys to 1,25‑dihydroxyvitamin D₃, which then exerts its normal biological effects.
When vitamin D is deficient, the animal's ability to absorb calcium and phosphorus from the intestine is reduced, resulting in low blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Consequently, the deposition of calcium and phosphorus in bone tissue decreases, bone formation is impaired, and even previously deposited bone salts may be resorbed.
Action and Use
Fat‑soluble vitamin. Mainly used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency, such as rickets and osteomalacia.
Dosage and Administration
Intramuscular injection: single dose, per 1 kg body weight, domestic animals 0.005–0.01 ml.
Adverse Reactions
(1) Excessive use of vitamin D directly affects calcium and phosphorus metabolism, reduces bone calcification, causes ectopic calcification in soft tissues, and may lead to symptoms such as arrhythmias and neurological disturbances.
(2) Vitamin D excess may also indirectly interfere with the metabolism of other fat‑soluble vitamins (such as vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin K).
Precautions
During use, attention should be paid to calcium supplementation. In case of toxicity, discontinue this product and calcium preparations immediately.
