Description

This product is a clear, oily liquid, pale yellow.

Pharmacological Action

This product prevents the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids and other easily oxidised substances in the body, protecting the integrity of cell membranes and maintaining their normal function. Vitamin E is also closely related to animal reproductive function, promoting gonadal development, facilitating conception, and preventing abortion. In addition, vitamin E increases the animal's resistance to disease and enhances its ability to cope with stress.

Normal secretion of bile and pancreatic juice facilitates the absorption of orally administered vitamin E. In the body, vitamin E is stored mainly in the liver, but the storage capacity is much lower than that of vitamin A. This product is metabolised in the liver and excreted mainly via bile. When the diet is deficient in vitamin E, the vitamin E stored in the liver is readily depleted.

Vitamin E deficiency in animals leads to various dysfunctions. For example, in poultry, it causes a decrease in egg hatchability, and in chicks, encephalomalacia and exudative diathesis. In growing calves, lambs, and piglets, it manifests as nutritional muscular atrophy; early signs include stiffness and reluctance to move, and post‑mortem examination reveals degenerative, greyish‑white areas in skeletal muscle and myocardial damage.
