Pharmacological Action
This product, together with nicotinic acid, is collectively known as vitamin PP or anti‑pellagra vitamin. Nicotinamide is a component of coenzyme I (NAD) and coenzyme II (NADP), playing a role in hydrogen transfer in oxidation‑reduction reactions in the body. It is closely related to glycolysis, fat metabolism, pyruvate metabolism, and the generation of high‑energy phosphate bonds, and also plays an important role in maintaining the normal function of the skin and digestive organs.
Nicotinamide deficiency in animals is mainly manifested as metabolic disorders, especially diseases of the integument and digestive system. Nicotinamide deficiency is uncommon in ruminants, but supplementation in ruminants can improve nitrogen utilisation efficiency, promote growth, and increase microbial protein synthesis in the rumen and milk production in lactating animals. Deficiency in pigs manifests as decreased appetite, poor growth, stomatitis, diarrhoea, exfoliative dermatitis, and alopecia.
Action and Use
Water‑soluble vitamin. Mainly used for nicotinic acid deficiency.
Dosage and Administration
Intramuscular injection: single dose, per 100 kg body weight, domestic animals 0.2–0.6 ml; for young animals, not more than 0.3 ml.
Adverse Reactions
No adverse reactions have been observed when used according to the prescribed dosage and administration.
Precautions
Intramuscular injection may cause pain at the injection site.
Withdrawal Period
No withdrawal period required.
