Description
This product is a suspension of fine particles. Upon standing, the fine particles settle; after shaking, it becomes a uniform, off‑white to greyish‑brown suspension.
Pharmacological Action
Ceftiofur is a β‑lactam antibiotic exclusively for veterinary use with broad‑spectrum bactericidal activity. It is effective against Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative bacteria (including β‑lactamase‑producing strains). Susceptible bacteria include Pasteurella multocida, Pasteurella haemolytica, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., etc. Some strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus are resistant.
Action and Use
β‑lactam antibiotic. Used for the treatment of bacterial respiratory infections in pigs, such as Haemophilus parasuis disease.
Dosage and Administration
Calculated as this product. Intramuscular injection: single dose, per 1 kg body weight, pigs 0.05 ml, once every 3 days for two doses.
Adverse Reactions
(1) May cause gastrointestinal flora disturbances or superinfection.
(2) Has some nephrotoxicity.
(3) May cause transient pain.
Precautions
(1) Shake well before use.
(2) Adjust the dose in animals with renal insufficiency.
(3) Persons highly sensitive to β‑lactam antibiotics should avoid contact with this product.
Withdrawal Period
Withdrawal period: pigs 5 days.
