This product is a clear liquid, slightly yellow or pale yellow.
Pharmacological Action
Polypeptide antibiotic. Colistin is a narrow‑spectrum antibiotic with strong antibacterial activity mainly against Gram‑negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. The bactericidal mechanism of colistin involves damaging the bacterial cell membrane, increasing its permeability, causing leakage of amino acids, purines, pyrimidines, K⁺, etc. from the bacterial cell, and also affecting nucleic acid and ribosome function, leading to bacterial death.
Action and Use
Polypeptide antibiotic. Used for the treatment of colibacillosis in suckling piglets.
Dosage and Administration
Intramuscular injection: single dose, per 10 kg body weight, suckling piglets 0.8–1.6 ml. Administer twice daily for 3–5 consecutive days.
Adverse Reactions
(1) Systemic administration of polymyxins may cause nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and neuromuscular blockade.
(2) Concomitant use with drugs that can cause renal impairment may enhance the toxicity.
Precautions
(1) Do not use together with alkaline substances.
(2) This product is highly toxic with a narrow margin of safety; the recommended dosage must be strictly followed.
Withdrawal Period
Withdrawal period: pigs 28 days.
