Description

This product is a clear liquid, colorless to slightly yellow.

Pharmacological Action

Thiamphenicol is an amphenicol antibiotic with broad‑spectrum antibacterial activity. It is more active against Gram‑negative bacteria than against Gram‑positive bacteria. It is highly active against most Enterobacteriaceae, including Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella spp. Other sensitive Gram‑negative bacteria include Pasteurella spp., Brucella spp., etc. Sensitive Gram‑positive bacteria include Bacillus anthracis, Streptococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus spp., etc. Chlamydia, Leptospira, and Rickettsia are also sensitive to this product. It also has considerable activity against anaerobes such as Clostridium tetani and Actinomyces spp. However, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and fungi are not sensitive to it.

PharmacokineticsThis product is rapidly and completely absorbed after oral administration. After absorption, it is widely distributed in various tissues. It is excreted mainly unchanged in the urine. The elimination half‑life in cattle and sheep is shorter than that of chloramphenicol; in pigs, the elimination half‑life is 4.2 hours.
