What is Chlorpromazine Hydrochloride Tablets?

Pharmacodynamics: Chlorpromazine is a central dopamine receptor blocker with multiple pharmacological activities. It potentiates the central inhibitory effects of drugs such as anesthetics, analgesics, and anticonvulsants. It also inhibits the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center, leading to a significant reduction in body temperature. Additionally, chlorpromazine blocks peripheral α-adrenergic receptors, directly dilates blood vessels, relieves spasm of small arteries and veins, improves microcirculation, and exhibits anti-shock effects.

Pharmacokinetics: This product is readily absorbed after oral administration but undergoes significant first-pass metabolism. In monogastric animals, the time to peak plasma concentration is approximately 3.0 hours. After absorption, about 95% of the drug binds to plasma proteins. Chlorpromazine is highly lipophilic, widely distributed throughout the body, readily crosses the blood-brain barrier (achieving higher concentrations in the brain than in plasma), and can cross the placental barrier into the fetus. It is primarily metabolized in the liver via hydroxylation and sulfoxidation, with some metabolites retaining pharmacological activity. Most metabolites are excreted in urine, a small portion in feces, and some undergo enterohepatic recirculation. The half-life in dogs is approximately 6.0 hours. This product is metabolized very slowly, and residues can persist in animals for several months.
