What is Neomycin Sulfate Tablets?
Pharmacodynamics: Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a spectrum of activity similar to kanamycin. It exhibits potent antibacterial effects against most Gram-negative bacilli, such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella, and Pasteurella multocida, and is also relatively effective against Staphylococcus aureus. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), Rickettsia, anaerobic bacteria, and fungi are resistant to this agent.
Pharmacokinetics: Neomycin is poorly absorbed following oral or topical administration. After oral administration, only about 3% of the total dose is excreted in urine, with the majority eliminated unchanged in feces. Absorption may increase in the presence of inflamed or ulcerated intestinal mucosa. When administered via injection, it is rapidly absorbed, and its in vivo behavior is similar to that of kanamycin.
