What is Albendazole Oxide Tablets?

Pharmacodynamics: Oxfendazole is the primary oxidative metabolite of albendazole in vivo and is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic agent. It exhibits strong activity against nematodes and significant effects against cestodes and trematodes. Its mechanism of action primarily involves binding to tubulin in nematodes. Oxfendazole binds to β-tubulin, inhibiting its polymerization with α-tubulin to form microtubules. Microtubules are fundamental structural units of many organelles and are essential for cellular processes such as mitosis, protein assembly, and energy metabolism. Oxfendazole shows a significantly higher affinity for nematode tubulin than for mammalian tubulin, resulting in very low mammalian toxicity. This product is highly effective not only against adult parasites but also against immature worms and larvae, and it possesses ovicidal activity. It is effective in cattle and sheep against adult and fourth-stage larvae of Ostertagia, Haemonchus, Trichostrongylus, Nematodirus, Cooperia, Bunostomum phlebotomum, Oesophagostomum, and Dictyocaulus, as well as adult Fasciola hepatica and Moniezia. It is also used in poultry for flagellates and cestodiasis.

Pharmacokinetics: This product is metabolized in vivo to albendazole sulfone, which is subsequently metabolized to albendazole-2-aminosulfone; metabolites may undergo protein binding. In sheep, plasma concentrations of oxfendazole and albendazole sulfone after oral administration are similar to those observed after albendazole administration, with a time to peak plasma concentration of 8.5 hours.
